Getting Started

At your initial visit, Dr. Moradi will ask you what your goals are regarding the look of your nose. You must be specific about what you would like to have done. After careful examination of your nose, he will explain what improvements can be made and how realistic your goals for your San Diego nose job are. The shape and look of your face must be considered when planning rhinoplasty, and your past medical history is of great importance, too. For instance, if you have allergies or breathing problems, Dr. Moradi will need to know this. There are also medical conditions that may prevent you from being a good candidate for this surgery including having diabetes, poor circulation, a history of blood clots, or if you smoke or take certain medications.

Two Types of Rhinoplasty

The two main options for nose surgery are closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty.

Closed rhinoplasty involves making incisions only inside your nose. With this procedure, swelling goes down sooner, and recovery is typically faster. However, with the closed procedure, it is more difficult for Dr. Moradi to see parts of the inside of your nose.

On the other hand, open rhinoplasty involves a small incision between the nostrils, in addition to incisions on the inside of your nose. For more complicated cases, this method is the preferred one. Also, open rhinoplasty allows Dr. Moradi greater visibility of your nose. Swelling and bruising last longer, but Dr. Moradi will explain ways to minimize these, helping them to subside more quickly.

The two types of nose surgery can correct the following imperfections:

  • The tip of the nose can be reshaped more to your liking
  • A "hump" on the bridge of the nose can be corrected
  • Wide nostrils can be made more narrow
  • By trimming the septum, the angle between the nose and lip can be improved

Recovery and Results

Just as with any surgery, recovery time varies from patient to patient. Dr. Moradi will thoroughly explain what you should expect following your procedure. Keep in mind that after surgery, your nose is not going to look attractive immediately, and you will experience:

  • Some pain
  • Numbness
  • Swelling
  • Asymmetrical appearance
  • Bruising

During your consultation, Dr. Moradi will explain rhinoplasty to you in great detail so you will know what to expect. Click here to request a complimentary consultation. Or you can call us at 760-726-6451 to schedule your appointment.
