San Diego Radiesse® Treatment

Radiesse is an advanced composite of calcium hydroxylapatite and methylcellulose. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a mineral found in your bones and teeth, and has been used for decades as a hard-tissue filler for bones. When its high biocompatibility was seen, the soft-tissue filler was developed.  The mineral resists absorption by the body, so stays in place as a framework for collagen production.  The collagen then replaces the methylcellulose.  Methylcellulose is a common food thickener, completely harmless and used only as a carrier for the mineral filler.

Radiesse injections can reduce wrinkles and folds, and fill in sunken areas of the face. It is incredibly versatile and has shown the longest-lasting results of any injectable filler available. This means that although it is more expensive per treatment than hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, and JUVÉDERM®, it is a very cost-effective option. 

The procedure
Radiesse injections are similar to those of other injectable fillers and only take about 15 minutes to perform.

• First, numbing cream is applied to the skin
• Small amounts of Radiesse are injected into the treatment area
• You can give feedback and the doctor can make adjustments accordingly
• You will see full results in about one week

Recovery
You will see swelling that generally subsides in one to two days, although it can last for a week. There should be minimal pain, if any. You can get back to most of your normal activities right away.
