San Diego Mid Face Lift
The mid face is one of the locations most affected by the aging process. Many of the most distinctive features of aging are in the mid face, including the so-called tear trough, the hollowed, sagging cheek, and the nasolabial folds. These features are the result of several parts of the aging process, including the loss of facial fat, the decline of skin elasticity, and the effects of gravity. All of these concerns can be targeted separately with facial fillers like JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel or even facial implants, but for many people in San Diego, a mid face lift can improve all of these simultaneously.
The midface lift repositions the tissue of the mid face in a position closer to where it was when you were young. As a result, you will see a lessening of the tear trough, the nasolabial folds, and the hollowness under the eyes.
The Midface Lift Procedure
At Moradi M.D. in San Diego, the mid face lift is performed endoscopically, like some forms of brow lift, and is performed under deep sedation and/or local anesthesia. Small incisions are made behind the hairline above the ears on both sides. Sometimes an incision within the mouth is also used. The fat pads of the cheek are then lifted up and repositioned above the bones of the cheek. Since gravity affects your face vertically, the remedy is vertical as well.
Beware of doctors who plan to pull tissue straight sideways. While this may remedy some wrinkles, especially nasolabial folds, it produces more of an artificial appearance — rather than a youthful one — by putting your tissue in a place it was never meant to be. Also avoid thread lifts, which depend on barbed threads to hold your tissue, since these often do not provide lasting results, but can be very painful.
Midface Lift Recovery and Results
Recovery from an endoscopic face lift is relatively short. You will experience some minor pain and bruising that will last from 7–10 days.
After your mid face lift, you will notice a lessening of cheek hollowness, tear troughs, and nasolabial folds. When the fat of the cheek sinks, it creates the nasolabial folds by compressing the skin and fat below it. For the same reason, its sinking causes hollowness in the cheeks as the fat moves off the cheekbone, leaving an empty space behind that encourages the skin above to sag and bag under the eyes into tear troughs. The amount of correction you see depends on the extent to which your features are determined by gravity as opposed to fat loss.
Complementary Procedures for San Diego Facial Rejuvenation
The midface lift provides only minor correction of a poorly defined jaw line as a result of hanging jowls, but a full face lift or even a short incision face lift in San Diego can correct these problems. If your face has lost a great deal of volume with age, you may see better results if you combine the procedure with facial implants or facial fillers. Sometimes a midface lift can give sufficient correction of under eye bags, but in other cases a combination lower eye blepharoplasty and/or facial fillers may be necessary.
