How to Choose a San Diego Facial Plastic Surgeon

The decision to undergo plastic surgery is not one that most people make lightly. It may be particularly challenging to choose whether or not to have elective surgery on the face – the most visible part of your self. The knowledge that you're putting your face in the best hands possible goes a long way towards easing apprehension and moving forward with your aesthetic goals. But with so many seemingly qualified surgeons out there, how do you choose the right San Diego facial plastic surgeon?

The Importance of Board Certification

Perhaps the most important criteria for choosing a facial plastic surgeon in San Diego is board certification. Dr. Amir Moradi is board-certified in both Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery) and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These certifications indicate a higher level of specialization than is required of general plastic surgeons, with training focused specifically on procedures for the face, head and neck. In order to meet certification requirements for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS), a doctor must:

  • Have completed an approved residency in one of the two surgical specialties that include identifiable training in all aspects of facial plastic surgery (otolaryngology/head-and-neck surgery or plastic surgery, generally)
  • Have earned prior certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Otolaryngology
  • Have successfully completed a two-day written and oral examination
  • Have submitted for peer-review an acceptable record of at least two years' clinical experience, including operative reports of a minimum 100 facial plastic surgeries
  • Hold proper licensure and subscribe to the ABFPRS Code of Ethics

Patient Recommendation

In addition to board certification, it is vital that you find a facial plastic surgeon who consistently produces beautiful results and happy patients. Don't be afraid to ask around and see if any friends or family members have had facial procedures, and if they are happy with their surgeon and their results. Our before and after photos can give you a good idea of the quality of surgical results we achieve for our patients, many of whom have shared their stories on our testimonials page.

Schedule a Consultation

Ultimately, you cannot know whether you trust a doctor until you meet with him or her. Some San Diego plastic surgeons charge for a consultation, but you should consider this fee a small investment in your peace of mind and your potential surgical outcome. We encourage you to consult with several surgeons because we are confident that we will provide you with the best quality of care.
