Acne Scar Therapy

Acne is something most people go through as part of puberty and growing up. For the majority, acne also goes away along with all the awkwardness, moodiness, and obsessive crushes of teenage life. It may not be cause and effect, but one day you wake up to realize you're not going to die if so-and-so doesn't like you, and you look in the mirror and your acne is gone.

Unfortunately, like the emotional turmoils of being a teenager, acne often leaves painful scars that can follow us to the end of our lives. Acne scars are a permanent reminder of that time in our lives when nothing we did seemed to keep the pimples at bay.

But if your face has been scarred by acne, you do not need to suffer the enduring stigma of your past. Instead, many treatments exist for acne scars today that provide good results. Most commonly, acne scars manifest as deep dimples that interrupt the smooth curve of your skin, and the problem is building up tissue under the scar to fill it in. One of the best treatments recently developed is Fraxel fractional laser treatment, which burns microcolumns into the deep layers of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen which then fills in the acne scars. A similar treatment is part of the Sciton Profile phototherapy, known as Profractional laser treatment. These treatments are more effective on acne scarring than traditional resurfacing, either chemical peels or laser resurfacing. Because they only target a fraction of the skin, they can target deeper tissue and stimulate the growth of collagen to a higher degree.

Your enduring acne scars can give long life to another unfortunate part of being a teenager: deep insecurity about our appearance. Shed your insecurity and feel full confidence in yourself and your appearance. Please contact Face Beautiful Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery today for a consultation.

Keeping Your Face Looking Young

Unless you are a god, Dorian Gray, or the Invisible Man, you see the effects of aging every day in the mirror. Unfortunately, time is inexorable, but your face does not have to suffer as a result.

The effects of aging on your face are actually the result of three different factors: gravity, sun, and changes within your face. All of these factors can be combated with a combination of preventative and corrective measures.

Gravity may be the weakest of the four fundamental forces, but it conquers using the same strategy as that of the sapling that eventually cracks a stone: implacable persistence. Gravity is constantly working to pull all our features downward. Cheeks sink into jowls, the neck begins to sag, and eyelids and brows become heavy. Because of the persistence of gravity, there is little preventative treatments that can prevent these effects, but corrective procedures do exist. Sinking cheeks can be corrected with a facelift, short incision facelift, or mid face lift, and a sagging neck can be corrected with a neck lift. Sagging eyelids can be corrected with a blepharoplasty, while a brow lift can give significant improvement to heavy brows.

Sun, although operating through the much stronger electromagnetic force, can be combated with many preventative measures. The best and easiest is to avoid direct sunlight, especially by staying indoors between 10 am and 6 pm daily. Hats are also an effective (and stylish) option (especially on derby day). On the other hand, if you have suffered sun damage, there are a number of corrective options, including laser skin resurfacing, and Sciton Profile phototherapy.

As we age, our face changes in many ways, mostly losing all the qualities of youth. The face loses fat, becoming hollow and gaunt. The skin loses elasticity as elastin and collagen are lost by the body. Finally, the natural process of sloughing and replacing old skin slows, making the skin dull and more susceptible to sun damage. Both preventative and corrective treatments can help with this. Preventatively, you can improve your body's supply of elastin and collagen by keeping your skin well-nourished. As a corrective procedure, Fraxel can stimulate your body to produce more collagen. For lost fat, facial implants and fat transplants can be used to restore youthful volume to your face. You can enhance the slough rate for your skin by utilizing skin resurfacing techniques.

Most likely, your face has suffered from all these effects as a result of aging. To learn about a personalized comprehensive package of treatments available for the aging of your skin, contact Face Beautiful Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery today for a consultation.
