Blepharoplasty Recovery

People often think that the only way to achieve a younger, more vibrant look is through a complete facelift, but that is not the case. There are other cosmetic surgical procedures that achieve amazing improvements in the youthfulness of your appearance. One of those procedures is eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty. At Face Beautiful we have performed over 4000 eyelid surgeries without any significant complications.

As with any surgery, recovery time and experience for each patient will vary. But, for most patients, after the blepharoplasty surgery is complete, your eyes will be lubricated with an ointment. Bandages are not necessary. Once the anesthesia wears off, you may feel a tightness around your eyelids, and they may feel sore. The tightness and soreness is not unusual, but if you feel severe pain, an extremely rare event, call the staff at Face Beautiful Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery in San Diego, California immediately.

You will be given pain medication. The pain medication should be sufficient to control any discomfort you might have. If you have an allergic reaction to your pain medication, we can prescribe something different.

You will receive a list of instructions to follow after your surgery. Read the list and ask about any instructions you don't understand. The list below is a general one but is not meant to be a substitute for the one you receive from your surgeon.

· Ice packs - We may recommend that you use cold compresses or cold packs to help reduce swelling for 48 hours. We supply the ice pack.
· Keeping your eyes clean - You will be given instructions on how to clean your eyes to remove the crusty, gummy build-up without hurting your stitches.
· Eyedrops - Many patients are given wetting drops to help keep the eyes moist. As your eyelids heal, they will probably feel dry and somewhat itchy.
· Blurriness, excessive tears & sensitivity to light - Temporary changes to your vision are not unusual, nor should you be alarmed if you seem to be tearing up more than normal. In the 25% of patients who bruise, it can last up to 10 days.

Most people find that any bruising around their eyes reaches its peak during the first week after surgery. If you are normally prone to excessive bruising, you may findthat your bruises linger for a month or so. Our modern technology, lasers, and cutting cauteries, prevent most bruising.

We will closely monitor your recovery in the days following surgery, and you will have follow-up appointments at our facility.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty

Years ago, rhinoplasty (nose surgery) was reserved for the rich and famous, but that is no longer the case. Women and men of all ages have realized that this cosmetic surgical procedure is both safe and effective and quite affordable. The improvements rhinoplasty can make in one’s appearance are astounding. At Face Beautiful Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery in San Diego, California, rhinoplasty is performed on an out-patient basis at our very own surgical facility.

Many patients often have questions regarding the recovery time involved in nose surgery. Recovery experiences following any type of surgery vary with each patient, but, typically, during the first day or so following rhinoplasty, your nose will probably ache. Your face will feel swollen and puffy and your head may ache. You will be given prescription medication for your discomfort ahead of time, so you will have it with you when you need it. Normally, any pain felt can be controlled with this medication.

Over the course of the first day and for several days after that, the swelling and bruising will increase. Black eyes are not unusual and you may look like you were on the losing end of a fist-fight. Applying cold compresses around, but not directly to, your nose will reduce the swelling and help you feel better.

Within a week or two of your surgery, most of your bruising will be gone. The swelling generally goes away within the first week. You may see some swelling or slight bruises after the first two weeks.

You will probably feel stuffy for a few days after your surgery. During the first few days, you may have some bloody nasal discharge. Even though you feel stuffy, try not to blow your nose for at least one week following surgery.

If you have nasal packing, we will remove it when you have your post-op visits, typically a few days after surgery. After the packing is removed, you will feel better immediately. By the end of two weeks, or even sooner, all of the packing, dressing, splints and sutures will be removed. But, again, all recovery experiences are different for our patients.
